One of the few remaining empty showrooms in the town’s High Street has undergone a transformation to become the Tinca Art Gallery.

Run by Marian Eyre, the gallery, in the former Gordano Carpets shop at 6-8 High Street, will allow members of the community to purchase local and national art of exceptional quality, created by carefully selected, highly talented artists.

The ground floor gallery opened on Saturday, with plans to open a second floor in the autumn which will allow Tinca to offer workshops and classes, along with a bespoke framing service. Marian, who lives in Clevedon and her fellow directors, sister Catherine and brother-in-law Gary, say they chose Portishead because “it is a vibrant, growing town”.

Marian added: “We are very excited to be able to offer the exceptional breadth of work from amazingly talented and creative artists to the people of Portishead and the surrounding areas.”
