A pension fund which wants to transform an industrial area in Portishead into shops, bars and flats will talk about its plans tomorrow (Wednesday).

Standard Life Investment’s scheme to overhaul Old Mill Road has led to business owners fearing for their livelihoods.

Drawings seen by the Times show Standard Life has plotted restaurants and a cinema on the site, with existing units expected to be demolished once the leases expire in March 2019.

The scheme has won little favour in the town, and an awareness march was held the weekend before last, which attracted an estimated 600 people.

Standard Life though has promised to consult the public before submitting a planning application.

Standard Life will give a presentation to Portishead Town Council’s planning committee tomorrow evening at the Folk Hall, with the meeting starting at 7.30pm.
