A POTENTIAL site for a new post box in Portishead could also be the ideal location for a second post office in the town according to post office bosses.

Following the filing of a petition signed by 261 residents calling for more post boxes in the Village Quarter and Port Marine areas, North Somerset councillor Reyna Knight has escorted a Royal Mail representative on a tour of the area, in search of an ideal location.

Mrs Knight said: “We identified an ideal spot at the Village Square in Phoenix Way and Royal Mail has begun the process to move this forward.”

A model railway shop and a chocolate shop are already located at the Village Square and it has been confirmed by Royal Mail the chocolate shop has been identified as a possible location for a second post office facility in the town.

Portishead Town Council took up the plight of residents calling for a second post office service in 2010 and has been working closely with the Post Office ever since to try to identify a suitable location.
