When you think of fine wines, the mind automatically thinks about countries such as France, Spain, Italy and Australia among others, but one North Somerset producer is trying to break that thought pattern.

The rising appeal of British wines continues to grow and a Redhill wine producer has scooped a top award in recent weeks.

Aldwick Court Farm spans two vineyards and picked up a Taste Of The West award after judges deemed its 2014 white wine, Aldwick Buteo, worthy of a gold award.

Bubbly white Jubilate Sparkling Brut, a year older, was also given a silver certification.

Managing director Sandy Luck said: “English wine is now receiving the credit it deserves and our carefully chosen grapes, well tended vines, brought together through the skill of our experienced vintner, Steve Brooksbank, has enabled us to craft distinctive, yet widely appealing wines.”
