A Portishead petrol station may have to close for several weeks for alterations to be made.

Planning permission is being sought for the Shell garage and forecourt in Station Road to make improvements to the site. The oil firm wants to replace tanks, pumps, vents, offset fills and the forecourt canopy, but requires planning permission to carry out the work.

Portishead Town Council heard the changes would take ‘several weeks’ to be carried out and the petrol station would need to be closed for the duration of the work.

It raised no objection to Shell’s plans but made clear it hoped the work would be carried out quickly to avoid disruption. No potential date for the work has been revealed.
