A collaborative initiative to improve the safety, appearance and footfall in Clevedon’s town centre has reached the six-month mark.

Clevedon Business Improvement District (BID) has had a busy first few weeks and has set out plans for the coming year.

Between 20-30 flower baskets have already been spotted popping up around The Triangle and the steering group behind the BID has listed a number of projects it hopes to achieve.

Among its efforts, a M5 brown-sign feasibility study is being carried out with the aim to signpost Clevedon to motorists so as to encourage people to visit the seafront and town centre.

A grant application has also gone into the Lottery Fund to set up a community bus service which will improve the connectivity around the town for both tourists and locals.

BID manager George Grace said the team behind the BID has been working to develop a brand for the town.

He said: “We have been working with Pencil Studio to work out what exactly is the essence of Clevedon and how we want to promote it. The town has a great story to tell and it just needs to be told a bit louder.”

The steering group has been working to establish strong social media channels and a website while it awaits the first payment from North Somerset Council which will allow it to put money back into the town centre.

Parking reviews are taking place and a meeting of the community groups in Clevedon is being planned for November to ensure the organisations are working together to benefit the town.

A total of 62 per cent of the 108 traders in the proposed BID area cast a vote in the ballot supporting the project in April and now the cash which is put into the pot by businesses will be put back into the town centre for road and transport link improvements, appearance enhancements and events.

Mr Grace added: “The BID will sometimes take the lead but quite often it will be very time consuming task.

“But there are a lot of community groups already out there doing great work and sometimes they just need a bit of money to do it, which is where we come in to give that financial boost with the aim to host the event in the town centre.”
