A TICKENHAM businessman was the first Briton to complete the world’s toughest mountain bike race for charity.

Mark Wynn, aged 49, finished 249th out of 503 riders in the La Ruta de los Conquistadors event – a three-day race from coast to coast across 240 miles of Costa Rica.

The managing director of Avonline plc in Ashton Vale, Bristol, crossed a desert, a rainforest, volcanoes, mountains, rivers and swamps and coped with temperatures ranging from freezing to 40 degrees. The mountain bike race is recognised as one of the 10 toughest endurance events in the world and on the first day competitors climb over 3,500m.

Mark hopes to raise more than 5,000 for the Cheltenham-based Leukaemia and Intensive Chemotherapy Charity.
