Appeal to help the jobless

BUSINESSES in North Somerset are being encouraged to help unemployed people to start up their own firms.

A new Government scheme which offers six months of financial support to help the jobless become self-employed needs local bosses to volunteer their knowledge of starting up and managing small enterprises. North Somerset business people who volunteer will be appointed as enterprise mentors.

Lee Hughes, director of Outset CIC, which runs the New Enterprise Allowance on behalf of Jobcentre Plus, said: “This new scheme can be worth over 2,000 to the out-of-work who have the taste for enterprise. But they need good advice and friendly encouragement.”

Any businesses interested in finding out more can call Outset on 0800 0322903.
