Aldi plans to extend delivery hours
PUBLISHED: 06:29 19 August 2017
A Portishead supermarket has applied for permission to accept deliveries earlier in the morning and later at night – but it has been met with opposition.
Aldi opened in Wyndham Way in October 2015, but North Somerset Council insisted deliveries could not be made before 6am or after 10pm on a weekday or Saturday, or outside of 9am-6pm on a Sunday.
The retailer though wants that regulation to be removed to allow lorry drivers to access the store outside of those hours.
Aldi feels it restricts its effort to ‘meet customers demand’.
Portishead Town Council objects to the idea, although North Somerset Council will have the final say.
It believes the change would have a ‘detrimental impact on neighbours’ and that ‘the business appears to run successfully within the current constraints’.
