NORTH Somerset Council has said it will be business as usual for recycling collections over the festive period.

Employees will be collecting on all the official bank holidays, so the council is urging residents to put out their recycling and waste containers and bins on their normal collection days.

Councillor Carl Francis-Pester, the council’s executive member for environment, said: “The message is simple this year – there’s no change to your collection dates over the festive period.

“Rubbish increases by more than 30% over the festive period so we want everyone to recycle as much as possible this Christmas.”

The recycling centres in Backwell and Portishead will be closed on December 25 and 26 and January 1, but Portishead’s will be open on the bank holidays on December 27 and 28 and January 2 and 3. The recycling centre at Backwell will remain closed on December 27 and 28 and January 3.
