A new way of helping children make friends in the playground is being put to use in Clevedon.

The buddy bench has been given to St Nicholas Chantry Primary School, in Highdale Avenue, by nearby Christchurch.

The brightly coloured bench has been placed in the school’s playground and serves as the perfect spot to rest and relax after some play time.

It has since become a meeting point for children looking for new friends and headteacher Peter Treasure-Smith says it is well-used by pupils.

Headteacher Peter Treasure-Smith said: “It is a great asset to the school and is used every day by children who want to hook up and find new friends or as a meeting point.”

Christchurch’s family co-ordinator Kate Dommett added: “We are delighted to present this to the school a a way of building friendships and putting a smile on children’s faces.”
