Two Portishead bridges named after European towns have been spruced up.

Portishead Twinning Association has handed £200 to volunteers working hard to make the town more pretty.

Portishead In Bloom has used the money to help pay for planters on Schweich Bridge, in Phoenix Way, and Den Dungen Bridge, in Harbour Road.

The bridges are named after Portishead's twin towns in Germany and Holland.

Keith Fallows, of the twinning association, said: "This is a contribution to the beautiful planters on the two bridges named after Portishead's twin towns which both pass over the rhyne flowing out to the Bristol Channel.

"Most residents and visitors will have seen the names of the twin towns indicated on the street signs on the approach roads to Portishead but the bridges are less well known."
