Waiting times for breast cancer patients in North Somerset are almost three times shorter than the rest of the South West.
Figures from the All-Party Parliamentary Report on Breast Cancer show just 5.6 per cent of patients referred to breast specialists in North Somerset from 2015-2016 were not seen within the recommended two-week period.
In the South West as a whole this number rises to 15.5 per cent.
The number of eligible women attending breast cancer screening in North Somerset over the past three years is also higher than England’s average at 73.4 per cent, while 66 per cent of breast cancer cases in the district are detected at an early stage.
Mortality rates for women in North Somerset dying from breast cancer before the age of 75 stand at 20.6 per 100,000 people.
An estimated 42,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in England every year.
