A book aimed at boosting confidence among primary school children has been launched in Clevedon.

Authors Chris Calland and Nicky Hutchinson wrote Minnie And Max Are OK after noticing an increasing trend of young children expressing body image concerns.

The book, which was launched at Books On The Hill, is about a little girl and her dog who are both unhappy woth how they look.

The story sees them learn about the value of diversity and teaches children to embrace individual skills and qualities.

Chris said: “Over recent years we are hearing more and more about body image as a concern for even younger children and recent research from early years specialists say that 24 per cent of early years staff have come across children with body image concerns.

“We decided the best way to address this was through a story book aimed at three to seven-year-olds.”
