An avid walker from Portishead has climbed his 214th mountain and raised more than £2,000 for charity.

Over the past 10 years Bill Lloyd, aged 65, has been attempting to climb all 214 mountains and hills listed in Wainright’s Pictoral Guide to the Lakeland Fells.

Bill climbed up the final fell, High Crag Buttermere, with his daughter and raised £2,000 for the Great Western Air Ambulance.

He said: “The weather was good with great views over Buttermere on the way up, although low cloud obscured the actual summit.

“Having attained our goal, we returned via Wainwright’s favourite fell, Hay Stacks, and stopped at innominate tarn where his ashes are scattered to pay our respects to him.”

Bill completed the famous Lake District walks with his friend Peter Jameson in aid of the life-saving charity.

He has also written two books covering his walking experiences which have included the 16,000ft Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, the Inca trail in Peru and all 193 Welsh mountains.
