Green-fingered villagers will compete for awards at a popular flower festival this weekend.

Barrow Gurney's Flower Show will be held at the village hall, in Barrow Street, on Saturday afternoon at 2.45pm.

Prizes for best flowers and homegrown vegetables will be awarded at 4pm, where last year's exhibits featured Gay Cook's stunning dahlias, and Jonathan Clayton's admirable portimarron squashes.

The show, which promises to be one of Barrow Gurney's most popular events of the summer, is due to celebrate village life, and cooking, wine-making and hand craft entries will also be judged at the event.

The village barbecue is also set to go down a treat with revellers on Sunday, which will be held at the village hall at 1pm.

Smoked meats will be on the menu and children can enjoy activities held on the day.
