RED, white and blue balloons filled the sky above Nailsea on Saturday to mark the launch of the town’s community project to provide safe drinking water to people in Uganda.

Members of the Nailsea Uganda Water Project ran a stall at Nailsea Farmers’ and Craft markets and took along a working model of the rainwater harvesting system they are hoping to build to supply six villages in Uganda.

Members of the project need to raise £90,000 over the next three years to pay for the system.

The launch was kicked off with a range of games on Saturday including hook a duck and balloon racing which raised £1,200.

Art, music and Irish dancing also entertained shoppers as they turned up to find out more about the project.
