Friends and family of Libby Holliday held a ball in the grounds of her home in Flax Bourton where she lived with her husband James and her children Harry, aged five, and Jack, aged three.

Libby died from bowel cancer on September 1 last year, just a few months after being diagnosed with the illness.

The Libby Holliday Memorial Ball, which was held on May 20, included a three-course meal, performances from three bands, an auction and a raffle.

The event was a huge success and it was followed up with a family fun day the next day for everyone who knew Libby.

Nutty Noah and ladies from Rainbow Preschool provided the entertainment for the children and animal lovers were also able to enjoy some pony rides.

Her friends, who organised the event along with Libby’s parents Charlie and Margaret Atherton, said: “We are absolutely overwhelmed by the support shown by the local community of businesses and families and friends who have donated and contributed to our weekend in memory of Libby.”

Libby, who ran Equicraft tack shop in Backwell with her sister Jane and attended Flax Bourton Primary School and Backwell School, was well known and loved in the village.

Donations and prizes for the event flooded in from businesses, community groups and individuals and the money raised will be split between Above And Beyond, St Peter’s Hospice and The Little Princess Trust.

Sarah Allen Gunn, head of fundraising at St Peter’s, said: “We’re so very grateful to Libby’s family and friends who raised this incredible amount for local charities.

“The ball and fun day were both wonderful, sell-out events that were supported by the whole community. A testament to how well loved Libby was.”

Libby was cared for at home by St Peter’s Hospice community nurse specialist Claire Collins, and the hospice at home team. Libby’s family and friends would like to thank everyone who supported the event.
