POOR weather has meant a disastrous start to the season for Portishead Open Air Pool.

Rain, wind and low temperatures have resulted in fewer swimmers than expected visiting the seafront facility and with more cool weather forecast, trustees have revised the May opening times.

The pool will remain open for early morning swims on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7-8.30am. However, daytime opening Monday to Friday will be from 4-7pm and at weekends 1-6pm.

Trustees who manage the pool say the poor weather means that running costs have to be managed very closely.

A spokesman said: “This schedule will continue throughout May, but we do recognise the weather may dramatically improve and we can rapidly respond if this is the case, and revert to longer hours. This measure is necessary to limit the uneconomic opening of the community’s pool.”
