Roadworks in Backwell will be extended by yet another week amid delays.

North Somerset Council is changing Station Road into a 20mph zone by installing speed cushions to force motorists to lower their speeds.

Work was supposed to be completed by August 20, but the narrowness of Station Road has caused contractors some problems, while there have also been access issues.

Because of the delays, it was estimated the work would take one more week and was due to end on Friday – however this has been extended again to September 7.

Work today (Wednesday) and tomorrow (Thursday) will involve installing speed tables in Waverly Road, Moor Lane and Embercourt Drive.

There will be temporary traffic lights by the railway bridge during the first week in September while drop crossings and posts for the 20mph signs are installed.

Villagers have called for better road safety measures in Station Road for several years.
