There is a vacancy on a North Somerset parish council.

Cllr Joshua Stone has resigned from Backwell Parish Council and the council gave notice of the vacant seat on Friday.

If 10 people from the parish make a request for an election, then a vote will be held.

If not, the seat will be filled by co-option, which means the parish council members will vote for someone.

People have until March 7 to request an election.

They can do so by writing to the returning officer at Weston Town Hall, in Walliscote Grove Road, BS23 1UJ.

If an election is called, it will be held no later than May 14.

Parish council positions are voluntary roles, and the councillors make decisions on issues which affect the village.

The next time there will be an election for the whole parish council will be in May 2019, at the same time as the district council elections.
