HUNDREDS of swimmers aged from four to 80 made a big splash for charity at Portishead’s Annual Swimathon.

About 80 teams entered the event organised by Portishead Rotary Club at Parish Wharf Leisure Centre, raising thousands of pounds for good causes.

The event, opened by BBC weather girl Jemma Cooper, saw teams from businesses, schools and community groups swim in relay for 35 minutes each, achieving as many lengths as possible.

The main charity to benefit this year will be the recently-launched Young Carers group in Portishead, but other local causes will also benefit.

Rotary spokesman Miles Williams said: “We would like to thank all the swimmers and their sponsors for their help in making this annual event a continuing success.”
