A VOLUNTEER has been honoured for her hard work at Portishead Open Air Pool.

Ann Hailwood has been awarded the John Daws Cup by Portishead in Bloom, in recognition of the work she has carried out at the seafront facility since it was taken over by Portishead Pool Community Trust in 2009.

Presenting the cup at the Portishead in Bloom AGM last week, publicity officer Christine Button said Ann, who is the volunteer co-ordinator, had been recognised not only for all the time and dedication she gives managing teams of volunteers who keep the pool operational, but also for rolling her sleeves up and getting involved in cleaning and maintenance during the winter months.

The John Daws Cup was sponsored again this year by the North Somerset Times, which gave 100 in prize money.

The cup was created in memory of John Daws, one of the founders of Portishead in Bloom, and is presented each year to a member of the community who has made an outstanding contribution to the town.
