A PORTISHEAD website created to help families discover what is available to them locally has launched a new project to help recycle items.

Practically Perfect Mums is now offering free space on its website to help parents buy, sell, give away or request baby and children’s items.

Jane Batt, who runs the site, said: “Portishead parents have been telling me for a while how useful it would be to have an online marketplace for the town and the beauty of this is that there are no selling fees.”

Initially, Jane invited her friends to use the site and in the first week the buying and selling group had more than 100 users.

Jane added: “Obviously I am hoping we will be helping to keep unwanted items out of landfill as well as minimising our carbon footprint, as travelling distances are short when these local transactions are made.”

The group is also open to requests from individuals and organisations with specific requirements.

Items have already been donated to the Portishead Children’s Centre to be passed on to families which have arrived in the area as emergency cases with no toys and few possessions.”
