PORTISHEAD residents are calling for the clean-up of a well-used alleyway in the town.

A footpath linking The Triangle at West Hill to The Deans housing estate off Down Road, is used regularly by walkers accessing the area’s shops.

Those using it say it is now a disgrace because of a build up of litter and dog mess and they are calling for action to clean it up.

Speaking at the January town council meeting, Bob Bull, a resident of The Deans, appealed to local councillors to back his call for a street cleaner to clear up the litter strewn path and install a bin complete with sign to encourage people to use it.

Mr Bull said: “My experience is that if you leave an area in a mess it will just get worse, so residents want to see something done about it now. We should not have to campaign to get bins installed where they are needed, this is something the council should do as a matter of course.”

A spokesman for Portishead Town Council said: “The footpath in question has been inspected and we hope to be able to arrange for the installation of a bin in the area in the very near future.”
