PARENTS have been warned to stay vigilant after a stranger asked a child to get into his car near to Portishead Lake Grounds.

Two children were walking in Beach Hill at around 4pm on April 20, a few metres behind their mother, when a silver car, described as similar to a BMW X5, stopped alongside the seven-year-old girl.

The white male driver, of muscular build, called for the girl to get in. The girl shouted no and ran to her mother as the car sped off.

Police say no other similar reports have been received recently but the local police team is patrolling near schools as a reassurance measure.

Meanwhile enquiries are continuing in an attempt to identify the driver and vehicle involved in the incident.

Anyone with any information should call the police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
