A charity which provides vital support and services for older people celebrated its 70th birthday with a royal tea, a ball and awards ceremony.

Age UK Somerset kicked off its birthday festivities with a ball when volunteers, staff and friends enjoyed live music from The Blues Others, a dinner and casino night.

More than £2,000 was raised on the night through an auction and raffle.

The charity also premiered a short film which was made to mark the 70th anniversary and highlight the services it offers such as befriending, exercise sessions and benefits support.

As the charity’s anniversary fell in the same week as Prince Charles’ 70th birthday, volunteers Susan Stent and Les Cornford were invited to attend an afternoon tea at Spencer House in London to recognise their contributions.

Susan is a befriending volunteer and Les runs Tai Chi sessions.
