Brackenwood Garden Centre hosted charity walks for a Portishead family whose son died from a brain tumour.

Eight-year-old Ben Pritchard, whose condition was only discovered by chance after a game of football, lost his six-month illness battle at the end of last year.

His parents have raised more than £25,000 to help other families who will face similar turmoil.

A total of 18 strolls took place over six days, with 300 people from Bristol and North Somerset taking part.

The garden centre, in Abbots Leigh, raised £900 for Children’s Hospice South West.

Ben spent his final days at the charity’s Charlton Farm hospice in Wraxall.

Organiser Sarah Winterstone said: “We were delighted with the turnout and the large sum raised.

“Ben went to school with the owners’ children and grandchildren, so it is a cause close to all our hearts.”
