A TEAM of volunteers from North Somerset has been presented with a top award for garden and maintenance work.
Members of the 22-strong team have learning disabilities and operate from Nailsea’s Scotch Horn Centre where they assist the elderly and organisations such as Avon Wildlife Trust, Sustrans and parish councils with clearing and conservation work.
The volunteers have been praised as unsung heroes and have been awarded 1,000 from Simplyhealth which recognises those who help communities come together.
The dedicated workers are now in the running for a further 5,000 grant when they attend the award finals in London next month.
Members are planning to spend the windfall on new gardening equipment for their work.
