A bevy of swans trapped in a sluice have been rescued by Portishead Coastguard crew.
The team were called out at 10.30am today to pull out two adults and nine cygnets near Portishead marina.
A third adult swan was also found in the sluice in a poor state.
The crew worked with the Secret World animal charity which has taken the birds for treatment and will release them back into the wild.
A coastguard spokesman said: “Although the adults didn’t seem terribly appreciative at first, they were all rescued and passed to the Secret World animal charity for release. A third adult was then found within the sluice in a poor state. That was caught and handed to the animal rescue for treatment.”
It was the 27th callout of the year and the fifth this week for the crew.
On Tuesday, the coastguard was called to help rescue three people stuck in the mud at the Lake Grounds.
After being pulled out, crewman offered words of advice.
In a separate incident, a team was tasked and backed up by Clevedon Coastguard Rescue Team to assist police and fire service with a man stuck in the mud on the Portway Bristol.
The team responded at 3.50am and helped to remove the casualty from the mud. He was left in the hands of the police.
