Nailsea concert raises more than £2k for St Peter's Hospice

The summer fundraiser, held by Nailsea Folk Club, featured Bristol’s longest-serving shanty group The Harry Browns and Cornish performers The Stuns’ls.

The Stuns’ls, described as a "top flight Cornish shanty crew," stopped off in Nailsea on their way to an international engagement in the Netherlands.

The concert was met with a warm reception, with the audience enjoying powerful vocals, carefully crafted arrangements and use of harmony.

David Francis of The Harry Browns said: "We were so delighted when The Stuns’ls agreed to perform at this fundraiser with us because they are arguably the best shanty group from Cornwall, well-known for their starring role in the annual Mevagissey Shanty Festival.

"We were also delighted to raise so much money for St Peter’s Hospice on the night.

"The hospice is such a valuable resource for local people and my fellow band members, and I have cause to be grateful to St Peter’s for the support they have given to friends and family in recent years."

The Harry Browns have been performing for nearly 40 years and are a mainstay of Nailsea Folk Club.

The club organises monthly public concerts, with many events raising funds for local charities, usually in Nailsea’s Tithe Barn.

The next concert takes place on Saturday, September 19, and will feature Argentinian tango and folk music from Martin Alvarado and Gerardo Villar y Los Aguirre, supported by a world-class guitar quartet.
