Top five places to live in Somerset, according to new list

Frome, Yatton, Yeovil, Taunton and Weston-super-Mare have been named among Somerset's most desirable places to live by Persimmon Homes.

The developer said Somerset continues to attract homebuyers thanks to its combination of rolling countryside, coastal scenery, market towns and well-connected communities.

Historic Frome was praised for its independent shops, cobbled streets and thriving arts scene. The town regularly hosts markets, festivals and community events, helping it develop a reputation as one of the county's most sought-after locations.

Persimmon also highlighted the town's transport connections to Bath and Bristol, as well as its nearby countryside and schools.

Yatton was recognised for its strong community atmosphere and village character.

The village is home to the monthly Yatton Village Market and the landmark St Mary's Church, often referred to as the "Cathedral of the Moors". Its location along the Strawberry Line, a popular walking and cycling route, was also cited as a major attraction for residents.

Yeovil made the list for its employment opportunities, family-friendly environment and access to green spaces.

According to Persimmon, the town benefits from major employers in sectors including aerospace and manufacturing, alongside educational facilities and Yeovil District Hospital. The developer also pointed to the nearby Dorset countryside and Jurassic Coast as popular destinations for residents.

Taunton, Somerset's county town, was described as offering "a great mix of everything".

Persimmon highlighted the town's range of shops, cafes, markets and events, as well as practical amenities including Musgrove Park Hospital, Bridgwater and Taunton College and a variety of supermarkets.

The developer also noted access to outdoor attractions including Vivary Park, the Quantock Hills and the Blackdown Hills.

Completing the list was Weston-super-Mare, where Persimmon said residents can enjoy a traditional seaside lifestyle while still benefiting from the services and facilities of a large town.

The coastal resort's beach, Grand Pier, shops, restaurants, cinema and theatre were all highlighted as reasons for its enduring popularity.

Persimmon said each location offers a different lifestyle but shares the qualities that continue to make Somerset one of the South West's most attractive counties for people looking to relocate.
