Croquet players from across the South West recently met to put their skills to the test at a tournament at Nailsea.
Nailsea and District Croquet Club (NDCC) welcomed clubs from across the region to play on its pitch.
Clubs from as far as Cornwall, Swindon, and even Wales made the journey to North Somerset.
The tournament, conducted in a game type called Short Croquet, required players to complete 12 hoops on a reduced-size lawn.
The entirety of the event occurred across three days and was staged on the eight small lawns available at the NDCC.
A variety of players entered the competition thanks to the game's handicap system.
This allowed players with certain skills or advantages to receive up to 10 extra ‘free’ turns, while others were required to perform up to five peels.
A peel involves a player using one ball to help an alternate ball pass through a hoop.
There was a hailstorm on one afternoon.
Close play was seen on most lawns, with no teams wishing to be beaten.
The tournament was sectionalised, with some clubs entering more than one team.
Regrettably, this year, Nailsea did not take the winner's title, an honour that was claimed by East Dorset.
