Property: Nine-bedroom country house

Location: Barrow Gurney, Bristol

Asking Price: £2,500,000+

Agents: Fine & Country Bristol and North Somerset

A Grade II* listed country house dating back to the 12th century is up for sale for offers over £2.5m.

Barrow Court, in Barrow Gurney, has nine bedrooms and five bathrooms.

According to estate agent Fine & Country, the house has been home to owners including John Drew, a Bristol merchant who received the property from King Henry VIII, and Henry Martin Gibbs, who transformed it into a Jacobean masterpiece.

The property was originally a Benedictine nunnery and has undergone many transformations through the centuries.

It was divided into a collection of private residences in the 1970s.

The estate agents said the house "retains the presence, scale, and grandeur of a stately home".

The home underwent a restoration in the 1980s, "carefully reviving its many period details."

The property has a music room, sitting rooms, a self-contained apartment, and two cellars, including a wine cellar.

The gardens extend over 4.25 acres of lawns, terraces, and pavilions.

It is located 6.5 miles from Bristol city centre.

The estate agents said: "This is a rare opportunity to own the most significant part of one of North Somerset's finest historic estates."
