A display of generosity in North Somerset has helped raise thousands for a vital veterans’ charity.
Nailsea’s annual Poppy Appeal collected £20,682 for the 2025 campaign, an increase on last year’s total of just over £14,000.
Organisers described the result as “humbling” and expressed gratitude to the Nailsea community for its support.
Nigel Turner, organiser for the Nailsea Area Poppy Appeal, said: "We’re all thrilled at the result and humbled by the generosity of the people of Nailsea.
"We’ve enjoyed chatting to the public and hearing their stories of loved ones who have served.
"I was very grateful for the support of Nailsea’s poppy volunteers.
"It doesn’t matter whether they supported one shift or a dozen; they all contributed to a sterling effort that has raised a huge sum for the Royal British Legion."
The Poppy Appeal team also extended thanks to the many organisations that helped by hosting collecting boxes or teams, with special mention to Tesco and Waitrose, which supported collectors for 12 days.
The funds go towards supporting veterans, serving members of the armed forces, and their families, providing financial assistance, social support, and help with mental and physical health, housing, and care needs.
Volunteers are always welcome, and the team emphasised that no previous military experience or a long-term time commitment is required.
