North Somerset Council has elected its new chairperson and vice-chairperson.
Councillor Clare Hunt was appointed chairperson at a meeting on Tuesday, May 13, taking over from Councillor Peter Crew.
Councillor Caritas Charles was named vice-chairperson, succeeding Councillor Hunt.
Cllr Hunt, who represents the Nailsea Youngwood ward and has served as a council member for two years, said: "It’s a privilege to be elected as North Somerset Council’s chairperson. I’m looking forward to the year ahead, meeting local people, attending charity and civic events on behalf of the council and championing local interests.
"I hope to make a positive difference wherever I can, and my aims for the year ahead are to promote the wonderful area of North Somerset and, particularly, my hometown of Nailsea, where I have personally received so much help and support."
Councillor Charles represents Portishead East.
Over the past year, the outgoing chairperson, Cllr Crew, attended several charity and civic events across the region.

He said: "Being chairperson of North Somerset Council has been one of the greatest years of my political career. My passion has always been to support our local economy and tourism, and I’ve enjoyed promoting North Somerset and the wonderful place we live in to communities and visitors during the last year.
"There are too many highlights to name, but some events that have particularly stood out for me include attending the Armed Forces Day and St George’s Day Parade."
The roles of chairperson and vice-chairperson in the North Somerset Council are non-political, aimed at representing the council at civic events and promoting North Somerset.
