A North Somerset croquet club recently hosted more than 100 players during a three-day event.
The Nailsea and District Croquet Club (NDCC) played host to the South West Federation Short Croquet Teams competition between Friday, April 11 and Sunday, April 13.
Teams came from all over the South West, and as far east as Blewbury and Poole.
Interesting team names included the Glamorgan Druids, the Boa Constrictors, the Bristol Brunels, the Bath Salts, and the Bath Buns.
Short croquet is a test of shots and tactics with games taking just 75 minutes on half-size lawns.
The teams were arranged in six divisions, with promotion and relegation being played for, as well as the trophies.
A spokesperson for NDCC said: "The Nailsea members had worked hard in the days leading up to the event, preparing the lawns and hoops, as well as refreshments.
"With dry weather, and with 64 coloured balls neatly arranged in pyramids at the sides of the eight lawns, by Friday morning the tournament was ready to start."
In Division Six, Blewbury were the winners, while the Boa Constrictors topped Division Five with a "magnificent" 13 wins out of 16.
Bristol Allsorts won Division Four, Camerton and Peasedown A won Division Three, and East Dorset, from Poole, were victorious in Division Two.
In Division One, Avening, Trendlewood, and Swindon were tied on nine wins each.
This led to the only shoot-out of the event.
The four players from each team were asked to shoot at the 1.5-inch diameter peg from a distance of just over 16 yards.
Swindon’s first two attempts were successful, as was Trendlewood’s first attempt.
After that, there were no further hits so the top division plaque went to Swindon.
Meanwhile, NDCC is holding an open day on Saturday, April 26, from 10am to 5pm.
Interested participants are invited to try their hand with a mallet, and a barbecue will be on from 2pm, should the weather hold up.
