A MAIN road in Clevedon is due to close for nine weeks due to gas works.

Walton Road will close for approximately nine weeks from June 16 as gas main replacement works are carried out by Wales & West Utilities.

Emergency services, works vehicles, and vehicles with access permits for properties within the closed section will be allowed, North Somerset Council has said.

The closure will have a maximum period of 18 months, with the exact duration depending on the progress of the gas replacement.

Appropriate traffic signs will be in place to guide road users during each phase of the works.
