A charity that supports people with visual and hearing impairments held its second annual open day this week.

Vision North Somerset, based in Neva Road, Weston-super-Mare, opened its doors on Monday, October 21, inviting in people with sight and hearing loss, as well as professionals and suppliers, to see the services they offer and the support they can give.

Visitors were also able to meet the small team who run the services, a number of their volunteers, and trustees.

The charity supports people with sight and hearing loss throughout North Somerset, offering a range of help and advice, social groups, digital training, and support networks to enable people to remain independent.

The mayor of Weston spent an hour at the open day, talking to staff and meeting people.

Cllr John Crockford-Hawley said: "It was a real pleasure to see, hear, and feel the calm approach within the centre.

"Great staff with wonderful volunteer helpers, and I learnt much about advancements in electronic aids.

"As my own hearing becomes frustratingly challenged, it's good to know care and advice are 'on tap'."

Vision North Somerset would like to thank Greggs and Waitrose for their kind donation of food which supported the event, and Boots, Morrisons, and Tesco for donations for the raffle.

Vision North Somerset, previously Woodspring Association for the Blind, has been supporting people for nearly 50 years and plans to do a number of activities next year to celebrate their 50th year of supporting blind and visually impaired people as well as people with deafness across North Somerset.

If you know somebody who would benefit from the services run by Vision North Somerset, or you feel you need help with your own sight or hearing loss, please call them on 01934 419393 or email info@visionns.org.uk.
