THE wards of Clevedon East, West, and South are now represented by active and engaged local Clevedonians.
George Wormald-Kelly was co-opted onto the town council on Tuesday, September 10 and Michael Harriott and Kate Amor were elected unopposed the following Friday, September 20.
Kate Amor, who has been elected to represent West Ward, said: “I am eager to connect with the people of West Ward and listen to their issues and concerns.
“Building stronger ties between community groups and local businesses is a priority for me.
“I understand the importance of addressing the condition of the river, which affects both drainage and the local environment.
"I’m also committed to supporting the best solutions for road changes and parking to ensure the area continues to thrive."
Michael Harriott, who has been elected to represent East Ward, stated: "I am excited to focus on key priorities that will enhance life in Clevedon.
“I am particularly committed to improving our public spaces — from revitalising local playgrounds to ensuring our pavements and paths are well-maintained so residents of all ages can confidently access and enjoy their surroundings.
“Plus, I am keen to address the town centre drainage issues which are a muddy stain on our town.
“I am also dedicated to supporting the vibrant local community groups that make Clevedon such a wonderful and unique place to live.
"I hope to work with fellow councillors to build a stronger, more connected community for everyone.”
George Wormald-Kelly, who was co-opted into a vacancy due to non-attendance of a previous councillor, said: "I am proud to be standing as a new councillor for Clevedon South alongside District Councillor Hannah Young as the people of South Ward deserve to be fully represented and properly supported.
“I will champion key community assets such as the Library and The Barn, many of which my young family have the privilege to use on a weekly basis.
“I am also keen to explore environmental policies that benefit both the town and the planet and promote opportunities for the flourishing local businesses and events which make our town so unique and attractive.
"I fully endorse a positive, proactive approach and believe it is crucial for fostering a town that grows and develops in harmony with the wants and needs of its inhabitants.”
North Somerset’s Labour MP, Sadik Al-Hassan, has said: “I am looking forward to working with George, Kate and Michael as new Labour councillors on Clevedon’s Town Council.
“Together with all existing councillors across North Somerset, I look forward to working collaboratively to deliver the change our residents deserve.
“This is a promising start towards action and stability after a challenging period.”
