WOODSPRING Model Sailing Club hosted an open day to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
The club, based at Portishead Lake Ground, was founded on October 8, 1974.
To celebrate the milestone, they organised an open day on Saturday, September 21, featuring model displays, informal yacht races on the lake and a barbecue.
The event saw participation from numerous local model boat clubs from the West Country and South Wales, including Cwmbran Modelling Society, Gloucester & District Model Boat Club, Torbay Model Yacht Club, and others from Sedgemoor, Shepton Mallet, Vale of Glamorgan and Warminster.
Portishead Marine Lake, recognised as one of the premier model yachting lakes in the West Country, hosted what is believed to be the largest model boat and yacht gathering in Portishead for many years, with over 30 models sailing simultaneously.
The sun appeared in the afternoon, allowing the public to enjoy expansive model displays and regular yacht races on the lake.
Among the attractions were several scale and novelty models, including working miniature submarines and a family of meerkats on a catamaran.
Club Commodore Bob Conner cut the birthday cake after the barbecue and expressed gratitude to the visitors for joining the celebration.
