I HAVE seen reports in the Bristol Post and Western Daily Press that "the project (re-opening the Portishead line) only requires just over three miles of new track, as the line as far as Pill has already been restored".
This is not correct.
The re-opening requires laying new rails along all of the Portishead spur. Hence the £152m price tag, at 2019 prices.
A similar report was on Radio Bristol.
I think that the scheme's supporters are trying to give the impression that their plan is much nearer completion than it is.
Presumably they are getting worried that the scheme will not stand up to Government scrutiny. It won't.
The plan put forward by the Portishead Busway Campaign is much better value and would provide a better service.
Kind regards,
