THE Nailsea Neighbourhood Policing Team are hosting a bike-marking event at Leigh Woods tomorrow (Sunday).
Taking place on September 1, from 10.30am to 12.30pm, the event will allow cyclists to get their bikes marked for free using the BikeRegister system.
This is used by every UK police force and acts as a deterrent to thieves.
An Avon and Somerset police spokesperson said: "Getting your bike security marked and registered is a visible deterrent to bike thieves.
"They know that if they are caught in possession of a registered bike, the rightful owner can be traced and they will be arrested."
The BikeRegister website also highlights that while registering helps in recovering stolen bikes, it does not make them a difficult target for thieves.
Therefore, additional security measures are recommended, such as double-locking and parking in secure, well-lit areas with CCTV.
