THE annual Woodspring Wings weekend display of model aircraft is due for take-off with thousands of enthusiasts from all over the South West expected to attend on the weekend of July 6 and 7.
The club's airfield at Claverham Drove in Yatton will again see a large variety of aircraft, flown by some of the country’s leading model pilots, ranging from light ‘club’ models to jets with real turbines.
They will include the Concorde model, which helped celebrate last November’s 20th anniversary of the supersonic airliner’s last flight to Filton and its final place in the Aerospace Bristol museum, as well as a 20-foot wingspan Lancaster bomber.
And it is hoped there will be a flypast on one day by a full-size Dambusters’ aircraft, one of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
Also on-site during the action-packed weekend will be an open-top, double-decker bus, courtesy of the Bristol Omnibus Vehicle Collection, and it will be manned by members of the Bristol Aero Collection Trust, the charity behind Aerospace Bristol.
Each lunchtime there will be music from the UKebox ukulele band, playing a selection of songs, some of which are aviation-themed, and each day will have an exciting finale with the launch of large model rockets.
On the showground, there will be a food court, provided by Taunton caterers, Alfresco, and a fully stocked bar, plus over 25 trade stands.
Show entry has been kept at £15 for the day - £12 if booked in advance via the show’s website: www.woodspringshow.co.uk or its Facebook page – accompanied children under 16 will enter free and there is free car parking Camping is available from Friday-Monday morning for £75 (£60 in advance) and includes show admission for two adults on both days.
