A MULTI-agency response launched in Portishead yesterday (Tuesday, April 30) after a "possible object" was spotted in the water.

Crew members from Portishead Coastguard Rescue team were called out at around 11.25am.

An extensive search was undertaken, which included police, the fire service, and the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust. 

A spokesperson from the Portishead Coastguard Rescue Team said: "Callout 24 - Tuesday, April 30, 11:35.

"The team were called out to investigate a possible object in the water.

"After an extensive search, which included Avon Fire & Rescue Service, Avon and Somerset Police and South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust nothing was found.

"The team were stood down, a call with good intent."

Its website explains further: "HM Coastguard coordinates all maritime search and rescue (SAR) operations in the UK through a network of coastguard stations, operating 24 hours a day.

"Staff in operations rooms coordinate the response to a variety of incidents from lost or missing people to climbers stuck on cliffs or vessels missing at sea."
