A CHARITY fashion show is due to take place next month to raise money for Cancel Cancer Africa.

CHABS Weston-super-Mare will take place at St Paul's Church on Walliscote Road on May 25 from 3pm.

Proceeds from the show, which will come complete with entertainment, refreshments and stalls, will be donated to the charity, which aims to provides access to screening and cancer diagnosis in rural Africa.

The founder of the show, Mr Ronnie Jacobs, has been working for years to build a community medical centre.

Paul Green, a volunteer for the charity, helped make the Weston show a reality. CHABS London is already an established event.

Speaking about what to expect, Paul, who lives in Weston, said: "I have been acting as a volunteer with this charity for a few years and my daughter models for the show.

"I recently negotiated a collaboration with St Paul's Church in Walliscote Rd, for Ronnie to pilot this event in Weston Super Mare on May 25 this year - CHABS Weston.

"This is a daytime show starting at 3pm, models on stage from 4 pm. We will also have stalls for local artists and community organisations on the church grounds from 3pm.

"Local musicians playing at various points during the show, including the Lipinski Brothers and Blitz Time Sally to name just two.

"St Paul's is a great venue for this and has held many events, and has a capacity for 300 guests. The church is very tech-heavy and has lights, screens, speakers etc, and a state-of-the-art sound desk.

"The church is very progressive and can livestream, which they do with their musical services.

"The charity and St Paul's have decided that this will be all about community involvement and involve local artists and organisations."

The show's organisers are calling for local people to take part in the show, whether they have experience modelling or not.

Those with hairdressing or make-up experience are also needed to help with the show's preparations.

Speaking further about the show, Paul added: "The designs are superb and the type you could wear to a show for example and some everyday wear.

"The models will walk to the designer's choice of music and the models will be from all age ranges and both semi-pro and new beginners drawn from the local area."

Paul concluded that he would like to thank St Paul's for hosting the event.
