A son will run the London Marathon for Children's Hospice South West after being inspired by his mum's work for the charity.

Tobias Maltman, 27, will join thousands on the capital's streets on April 21 to undertake the 26-mile challenge, his first ever marathon run.

A visit to Charlton Farm Hospice in Wraxall, where his mother Julie works as a nurse, spurred his decision.

He shared his admiration, saying: "I am inspired, amazed and so proud of the work she does."

Specifically, he values the personalised care delivered to each child, assisting those in their most challenging moments.

In preparation for the marathon, Mr Maltman, originally from the Wye Valley but now a London resident, has been following a strict training regime.

He's been able to utilise parts of the marathon's route to familiarise himself and train.

He hopes his run will not only support the hospice's patients but also his mother and her colleagues, recognising the strain their work can have emotionally.

Mr Maltman has raised £1,600 so far out of his £2,500 goal on his JustGiving page.

The funds will serve Children's Hospice South West, which has delivered essential services to families with terminally ill children for over 30 years.
