Sixth form students at a school in Clevedon have excelled in oracy skills this year.

Some 15 young people from Clevedon School excelled in their grade 8 in spoken English with the English Speaking Board.

A total of five achieved the top distinction grade.

The lengthy exam involved knowledgeable and eloquent presentations on contemporary global and national news and current issues, followed by a literary reading.

Recognised by UCAS as a Level 3 award, these results highlight students' competency for future career pathways.

Assistant head of literacy and English at Clevedon School, Mrs Jo Carrington, said: "I am very proud of what the students have achieved.

"The support they also gave each other during the day was brilliant.

"Every student rose to the challenge having fully prepared for the intensive day."
