A local mother and her two children will be taking part in a charity walk in memory of their husband and father who died of cancer.

Rachel Perham and twins, Niamh and Samuel, will take part in the Forget-Me-Not Walk on March 17, in aid of Grief Encounter.

The walk will honour Neil Perham, who passed away after a battle with colon and liver cancer in 2022.

They will begin their journey from their home in North Somerset, then walk to the end of Clevedon Pier and back, aiming to raise vital funds.

The charity, a leading entity in the UK, offers support to bereaved children, young participants and their families.

At the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2019, at the time when Rachel Perham was pregnant with the twins, Mr Perham was diagnosed with the disease.

She herself faced suspected pre-eclampsia and admission to hospital, just as her husband was undergoing crucial treatment.

They experienced the sheer stress of managing Neil Perham's multiple treatments and hospitalisations, coupled with the birth of twins amidst the global pandemic.

By 2022, he had died when Niamh and Samuel were only three-years-old.

Rachel Perham, recognising signs that the children were grappling with their grief, sought the support of Grief Encounter to ensure they received the appropriate help.

The charity now aids Niamh and Samuel through their mourning, employing an array of tailored therapies to assist them in finding hope and healing.

Rachel Perham said: "Niamh and Samuel have been very fortunate over the last 18 months, to have benefitted from the support of the wonderful people at Grief Encounter".

The Forget-Me- Not Walk serves as an opportunity for families or communities to remember loved ones who have passed away, while emphasising the vital need for support for bereaved children and young individuals.

Ms Perham and her family will walk to remember Neil and raise vital funds for the charity, which is entirely reliant on the donation's generosity to continue assisting children and youths in the UK.

She expressed her gratitude towards Grief Encounter, stating: "We would love to give a little back to them to thank them for helping us so very much."
