Nailsea Community Christmas Float donated £200 to the Nailsea Leg Club.

The contribution was part of the £5,445 raised in December through the Nailsea Community Christmas Float.

It was presented by Pam Hunt and Malcolm Hunt and was gratefully received.

A PR spokesperson said: "Pam and Malcolm Hunt were delighted to present the Nailsea Leg Club with a donation of £200 raised by the Nailsea Community Christmas Float.

"The Float raised a total of an amazing £5,445 for good causes in December 2023 and was a key feature at the Nailsea Town Council Community Christmas Fayre."

Nailsea Leg Club is a free community initiative for patients of the Tyntesfield Medical Group.

They meet every Wednesday, from 9am till noon, at the Tithe Barn on Church Lane, providing health promotion, education, care and treatment for individuals with leg problems.

Features of the group include a community-based venue, collective patient treatments, a convenient drop-in operation and bottomless cups of tea or coffee while awaiting treatment.

They completely negate the need for appointments and cover a wide range of leg-related matters, including skin tears, leg ulcers, varicose veins, eczema and walking difficulties.

The festive float, created by Mr and Ms Hunt, has become a staple of annual Christmas merriment for the local community since its launch 40 years ago.

Ms Hunt said: "We have seen three generations of Nailsea residents grow up enjoying meeting Santa on his Float".

It could not take place without the selfless contribution from individuals and groups from the local community.

This includes numerous devoted volunteers, such as local schoolchildren, The Nailsea Scouts, and guides groups.

The float not only supports the Nailsea Leg Club but also benefits various other local groups including Mizzymead Dementia Group, Backwell & Nailsea Macular Society Support Group, Nailsea Climate Emergency Group, Nailsea and District Footpath Group, and The Friends of Trendlewood Park, amongst others.
